Transportation's commitment to sustainability is evidenced here by it's recent purchase of a 2010 Kenworth hybrid trash truck and two total electric utility pickups, for use by Recycling and the Carpenter shop. Environmental stewardship will be a consideration in all future vehicle purchases for the university. |

Motor Pool Operations
The Motor Pool Operations is dedicated to customer service and is committed to providing safe, clean and reliable vehicles. We are located at 1603 South Main Street, approximately three blocks south of the main campus, diagonally across from Wendy's. Operating hours are 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Vehicles must be picked up during normal business hours. Vehicles can be scheduled on line through the departments computer vehicle request program, AiM. Questions can be directed to the Administrative staff at 8-8147 or 8-7429. Rental vehicles are located in a secured area and will require card access to return vehicles after normal operating hours. Each vehicle is equipped with an access card for entry. Card access is not required to exit the secured area. The Motor Pool Operation has a wide range of vehicles to meet our customer needs.
Vehicle Maintenance/Garage
Vehicle Maintenance and Repair is located behind the University Services Building off of West Grace
Street. We have a dedicated staff of four qualified mechanics and two equipment repair technicians. Work
responsibilities range from engine overhauls to scheduled preventive maintenance, as well as managing the
landscape equipment fleet. Repairs include all customer owned vehicles, with a comprehensive snow equipment
repair program. Operating hours are 6:30am to 4:00pm. Any questions or concerns, please contact Terry Hemp,
shop supervisor, at ext. 8-6364. After hour emergencies, contact Campus Police.
Alternative Fuel Vehicle Program
Transportation is dedicated to improving our environment through our Alternative Fuel solutions.
Our department continues to press toward its’ goal of having a fleet that operates solely on alternative fuels,
by replacing older vehicles, and purchasing additional vehicles as needed with vehicles that operate on cleaner
burning domestic fuels, such as ethanol, bio-diesel, propane, and electric. The Transportation Department also
provides lab space and personnel to assist the ISAT Fuel Diversification program,
and has direct involvement with student projects, such as vehicle conversions.

| *Motor coach and bus trips are billed on a per day basis, depending on which is greater that day, the mileage rate or the day rate, except when the hourly rate for bus shuttles is selected. AiM is designed to bill for a trip based on the leave date and time and return date and time as a whole. C.A.R.S. was designed to compare each day's entry for the mileage or daily rates and choose whichever was greater. Each day was then added to create a billing for the whole trip. Multiple trip days for coach and bus trips will have an adjustment line indicating the amount needed to correct this issue since FM moved to the AiM motor pool module. | ||||
| **Hourly rate will be charged for any trip bus used for shuttle purposes, in the city of Harrisonburg. Rate does inclue chauffeur. | ||||
| ***Minimum of 3 hours per day charge. | ||||
